Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy
The Louisiana Dietetic Association's Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy was developed as a guide for dietitians and foodservice personnel working in hospitals and long term care facilities.

It also serves as a guide to physicians in prescribing appropriate nutrition interventions in these institutions.

The purpose of the LDA Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy is to provide practical information on routine diets and their modifications for a variety of nutritional needs.

Strategic Plan
Goal #1: Establish the LDA as the Leader in selected emerging areas in food and nutrition.

Objectives
:

1. LDA organization to become the preferred and most recognized source of consumer information on medical nutrition issues.

Tactic: Organize and maintain speaker's directory of experts in specialty areas of food and nutrition. The LDA Speakers' Directory will be marketed to media, public and professional groups. Tactic: Promote and market the newly revised LDA Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).

Tactic: Utilize the World Wide Web via the LDA website (www.eatrightlouisiana.org) to communicate activities and services. Area of Responsibility: Public Relations, District Presidents, Allied Group Representative, Diet Manual Chair, Media Representative and Website Chair

2. Collaborate with policymakers, professional and consumer organizations and Government agencies to formulate and advocate sound science-based food and nutrition policies.

Tactic: Increase participation in activities sponsored by other professional organizations which effect policymaking and consumer interest.

Tactic: Link LDA website to other allied groups.

Tactic: Solicit member representation to serve as liaisons on other professional, consumer and government boards that have similar interests. Area of Responsibility: President and Allied Group Representative.

Goal #2: Build Membership in the Association.

Objectives
1. LDA member increases by 2% Tactic: Initiate a LDA Membership campaign.

Tactic: Develop student involvement by setting up a session at annual meeting for student networking.

Tactic: Develop mentoring program for students within each district. Area of Responsibility: President and District Presidents.
2. Retain 95% of current membership

Tactic: Promote benefits of ADA and LDA membership (i.e. The LDA Today, Web site, other). Area of Responsibility: Publications

Goal #3: Influence the Policy Initiatives of Key Audiences

Objectives
1. Maintain 10 participants in the Public Policy Workshop (PPW) held in Washington D.C., representing all districts if possible.

Tactic: Request every district earmark funding to help send 2 delegates to the PPW. Area of Responsibility: LNC and District Presidents.
2. To complete the revision of Reimbursement in Louisiana study, and economic benefits of Nutrition Services.

Tactic: Survey insurance companies for updated MNT coverage. Area of Responsibility: LNC.
Goal #4: Increase demand and utilization of services provided by LDA members.

Objectives:
1. Increase consumer and corporate demand for comprehensive nutrition services.

Tactic: Use National Nutrition Month (NNM) Louisiana Day as deemed by the Governor of Louisiana to inform public of MNT value, provide information to enable them to ask for coverage.
2. Develop a plan of action for obtaining reimbursement for comprehensive nutrition services, to include health promotion and disease prevention, as well as MNT.

Tactic: Specific actions will be planned based on the prevailing atmosphere and opportunities. Area of Responsibility: Reimbursement Chair, State Media Representative, AM Committee, Project Coordinator and Website Chair.
Goal #5: Position member to compete successfully in a rapidly changing environment.

Objectives
1. Provide a liaison between ADA and Districts.

Tactic: Commutate all relevant ADA/LDA information to districts via email, LDA Today and LDA website.
2. Delegate and/or BOD Executive Committee serve as guest speaker to district meetings each year.

Tactic: Coordinate with districts program planning chairs and LDA Executive Committee at the Officer's Workshop for the upcoming year.
3. Promote self-assessment by individual members to evaluate areas of expertise or potential skills enhancement.

Tactic: Conduct hands-on Portfolio Workshops to assist members in the self-assessment process and development of 5-year portfolio plans. Include Portfolio Planning at Annual Meeting.
4. Increase attendance at Annual Meeting from 25% to 40% of membership.

Tactic: Utilize portfolio information supplied by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to plan programs based on member portfolio development goals.

Tactic: Target student members at Annual Meeting by increasing programs and activities offered for students.

Tactic: Market Annual Meeting in a more aggressive manner via the LDA website, program events and timely educational programs. Area of Responsibility: CPI, BOD Executive Committee, Annual Meeting Chair, Public Relations Chair, LDA Editor, Student BOD Representatives, District Presidents and Website Chair
