Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy
The Louisiana Dietetic Association's Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy was developed as a guide for dietitians and foodservice personnel working in hospitals and long term care facilities.

It also serves as a guide to physicians in prescribing appropriate nutrition interventions in these institutions.

The purpose of the LDA Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy is to provide practical information on routine diets and their modifications for a variety of nutritional needs.

President's Message

What an exciting time to be a Dietitian!

There is so much going on in the nutrition arena, both from a national and state perspective: Trans Fats, Farm Bill, ADA Leadership conference, ADA Grassroots- Development of State Public Policy Panel, a new location for the 2008 LDA FNCE 2008, La. Diabetes Initiative, Obesity Council, a new LDA Lobbyist, LDA Strategic Planning, food stamp revisions, the LDA Guiding Principles (formerly bylaws), Nutrition Care Process training…and the list goes on.

These are just a few of the things we will be focusing on this year as I serve you as LDA president for 2007-2008.

We have a lot to do. We have to ACT, that is :

A- access the possibilities
C- collaborate with others and
T- take the lead We are the key leaders in our field.

Let's show them who knows the science of food and nutrition. Let's seek every opportunity to show Louisiana true "GGRITS" that is "girls and guys raised in the South."

As our immediate past ADA president, Judith Gilbride said, "Owning the science of nutrition is critical to the future of dietetics."

Our environment faces us with new challenges and increased competition in the marketplace. We as a team must be stronger and more capable to face these opportunities. I call them opportunities, because they are! Every challenge is an opportunity to increase our visibility and recognition as dietitians. That is why I am proud to be a Louisiana dietitian, and represent our state as your President.

If you have any issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to bring them forward so our LDA board can serve you. Remember, NUTRITION is our MISSION and as ADA said in Washington at the Public Policy Workshop, "We are the Champions of Nutrition."

Sandy A. Sutton, LDN, RD CLSC
