The Child Nutrition bill passed the Senate by unanimous consent! Thank you for all your efforts. No doubt ADA (LDA) members presenting a united front helped get this passed!

To continue our good relationships with our congressional leaders, please have someone in your district plan a personal visit with your legislator or have your congressperson come speak to your district dietetic association! Already two districts (New Orleans and Shreveport) are scheduling a meeting with their U.S. Representative soon!

Remember, anytime you contact either your federal Congressperson OR state Legislator (email, phone, personal visit, town hall meeting, etc) let Lori Roy or Sandy Sutton know so it can be added to the "master list" of legislative contacts that is forwarded to ADA.

Welcome to our newest member of the Public Policy Panel:  Beth Sloan, MS, RD, CLC from the New Orleans District.  She will serve as our new State Regulatory Specialist (SRS).  If you discover any issues with state regulations that effect dietitians, please notify Beth at emsloan@cox.net so she can notify LDA.

On a personal note, I got a new “grandpuppy”, a black and tan Doberman.  He was born the day B.P. exploded, so I named him “Slick”.  (Please continue to pray for our precious coast and the people affected by the spill.)

If you plan to visit with a state Legislator, follow the steps above, but contact Sandy Sutton for the latest information from LDA.  The better your state legislator knows you and are familiar with LDA, the better they will respond when there is an issue critical to our profession.  If you don’t know who your state senator and representative is:
