The Louisiana Dietetic Association's Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy was developed as a guide for dietitians and foodservice personnel working in hospitals and long term care facilities.

It also serves as a guide to physicians in prescribing appropriate nutrition interventions in these institutions.

The purpose of the LDA Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy is to provide practical information on routine diets and their modifications for a variety of nutritional needs.

The Louisiana Dietetic Association's Affiliate Nutrition Network is a statewide referral service that links consumers, physicians, food manufacturers, distributors and restaurant owners and managers with nutrition practitioners. Participants in the Louisiana Dietetic Association's referral service are professionals or technicians who provide reliable, objective nutrition information, separate facts from fads and translate the latest scientific findings into easy-to-understand nutrition information. Participating members provide services on a fee-for-service basis.

Registered Dietitians (RD): Proven Professional Expertise and Excellence-The Food and Nutrition Experts!
Registered Dietitians have completed academic and experience requirements established by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, ADA's credentialing agency, including a minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and an accredited pre-professional experience program. RDs must successfully complete a rigorous professional level exam and must maintain ongoing continuing education to maintain their credential. Some RDs hold advanced degrees and additional certifications in specialized areas of practice. Please refer to the box "Got Nutrition" on our homepage and click "How can a RD help you?" for more information on how a RD can personalize an eating program for you or help you meet your nutritional needs.

Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTR): Proven Technical Expertise and Excellence
Dietetic Technicians, Registered have earned at least a two-year degree from an accredited college or university and have completed a dietetic technical program approved by ADA's Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education, including supervised practice experience in community programs, health-care and foodservice facilities. DTRs must successfully complete a rigorous technical level exam and must maintain ongoing continuing education to maintain their credential.
