The Louisiana Dietetic Association's Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy was developed as a guide for dietitians and foodservice personnel working in hospitals and long term care facilities.

It also serves as a guide to physicians in prescribing appropriate nutrition interventions in these institutions.

The purpose of the LDA Manual of Medical Nutrition Therapy is to provide practical information on routine diets and their modifications for a variety of nutritional needs.

Nutrition Survey

Vanderbilt University is determining the feasibility of offering advanced degree programs in Nutrition for Registered Dietitians. These programs could include a M.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition and an Advanced Practice Doctorate in Nutrition. These programs would be housed in the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

As part of this effort to meet the graduate needs of Registered Dietitians in this geographic region, your feedback on this survey is valuable. HOD MEMBER FACT SHEET: OUTCOMES OF THE FALL 2007 MEETING

The House of Delegates met in Philadelphia on September 28-29, 2007 to conduct its 78th meeting. The HOD discussed the following issues:

1) membership dues process;

2) health disparities.

In addition, HOD received the draft report and recommendations from the phase 2 future practice & education task force during a HOD town hall session. Reports on the current activities of the association, the financial status of the ADA budget and the initiatives of the ADA foundation were provided. Delegates also participated in a training session on communication skills for use in conveying information to members.

Louisiana Medical News

Blueprint Louisiana is hoping to make an impact on public policy affecting healthcare during this next year. Given the large number of candidates (many who were elected) for House and Senate seats who signed onto the Blueprint Louisiana agenda, their healthcare policy agenda merits a closer look. According to political pundit John Maginnis, Blueprint Louisiana obtained 31 Senate signatories, including 23 who have been elected and eight pairs of runoff candidates. In the House of Representatives, Blueprint has obtained 64 signatories, including 19 pairs of runoff candidates.
